News is breaking in Israel of an agreement between right-wing Yamina party leader, Naftali Bennett, and center-left Yesh Atid party leader, Yair Lapid, to form a “change government” that could end Benjamin Netanyahu’s lengthy run as Prime Minister of Israel. It remains to be seen if all Yamina delegates will remain with Yamina, as Bennett campaigned on a promise not to sit in a coalition with Lapid. At least two are currently on the fence. Will it end in broken promises or a last-minute decisions of MK’s to leave the party?
This follows the 4th election in 2 years for Israelis, who watched as parties were unable to form coalitions. This is a blow to those who see Netanyahu as the strong leader Israel needs in the face of threats from Iran and others. It will be interesting to see if Bennett and Lapid have the aptitude to handle foreign policy when it comes to threats from Iran, Russia, Turkey or others.
With America swiftly in decline, let’s pray that this seemingly more liberal government in Israel rises to the occasion in handling threats from all directions.
