There is lots of talk about tonight’s blood moon and the fact that it is the fourth blood moon in about 2 years. In fact, some have written books and have advanced a hypothesis that ties these astrological events to significant historical events in Israel’s history, and imply that this tetrad could be “God’s sign” to us that another significant event will occur. (Many believe that event could be the rapture.) So, I want to speak briefly to the idea of tetrad’s and God’s signs to us.
In brief, the hypothesis being talked about is this:
- Blood moons = full lunar eclipses, causing the moon to appear “blood red.”
- 4 blood moons in a “short span of time” (undefined, but usually 1-2 years) = a “tetrad”
- Historically, tetrads are relatively rare
- Tetrads are linked to significant Jewish feasts, thus this tetrad is God’s warning regarding potential events (including the end of the world)
I am not a fan of this teaching and believe it to be false teaching (of which the Bible warns will be rampant in the last days). I will refrain from being dogmatic about it, as God is God and He can do absolutely anything He wants, whenever He wants. Having said that, however, I don’t see blood moons as a “sign” to us foretelling what will definitely happen on a specific date.
Below are two links which provide evidence as to why the hype over blood moons and tetrads lack logical and Biblical basis. I encourage you to read them.

Blood Moon Theory Debunked and More – Though I am not a follower of Chris White, the points made here seem to make sense.
I hope this helps answer some of your questions about blood moons. Bottom line is this:
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”
Rest in God’s sovereignty, enjoy the eclipse, and know that our Lord Jesus Christ is indeed preparing to come again. We are taught to be ready for His imminent return and, assuming we heed that exhortation, we can simply enjoy God’s brilliant handiwork in the heavenlies without conjuring up ideas of “special signs” in the sky.
