Dare to be a Daniel!

So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and ashes.

Were you one of the multitude gathered in the throne room of our Almighty God on Tuesday, praying for Israel, and for the hearts of her people? If not, please go to 911: An Emergency Recall to Pray for Jerusalem.   Anne Graham Lotz powerfully led us in beseeching the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob on behalf of the Jewish people.  We prayed with confidence, with compulsion, with contrite hearts, and with clarity.  We acknowledged the greatness of our God, we recalled His promises to Israel, we confessed our sins both personally and nationally, and we asked our prayer-hearing, prayer-answering, miracle-working God to move on behalf of His chosen people!

But then, at the very end of Anne’s model prayer for us, we committed to pray until our prayers are confirmed!  Do you believe that God is God?  Do you believe He is eternally strong?  Do you believe He hears our prayers?  Do you expect Him to respond in answer to prayers uttered in the will and for the glory of His Son?  It’s a sure thing that He will bring honor and glory to Jesus, and I want to be a part of that “glory” crowd that honors Him, don’t you?

Through earthly eyes, our world is falling apart.  But in God’s eternal plan the world is not falling apart, the pieces are simply falling into place!  May I encourage you to run the race with endurance, keeping your eyes on Jesus!

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
~Hebrews 12:1-2

As you do that, be a Daniel!  While in Babylonian captivity, the prophet inquired of God as to the future of Jerusalem.  Knowing that desolation was coming, he prayed and fasted in sackcloth and ashes.  Prayer is just as urgent today, so what do we learn from Daniel?  He acknowledged the greatness of God, confessed the sin of his people, and boldly asked for God to shine His face and incline His ear toward them.  He also asked the Lord to take action on their behalf.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and take action! For Your own sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”
~Daniel 9:19

So, I exhort you: be a Daniel!  A day of prayer is nice, but a lifetime of prayer is what the Lord delights in,   and an attitude of prayer is what stirs the heart of God to move on behalf of His people.  So, here is my encouragement to you:

  • Let’s make September a month of prayer!
  • Read Daniel 9:1-23 daily.
  • Begin to pray your way through Daniel 9:1-23 once you have read it through a few times.
  • Commit to pray for Israel for at least 5 minutes every day.

I believe our miracle-working God wants to move on behalf of His people.  Will you join me in the throne room of God, as we commit to pray until our prayers are confirmed?

Blessings to you, my friends, as you follow the will of God in praying for Jerusalem.
