In a story published by Breitbart over the weekend, presidential candidate Mike Huckabee made his views known on several issues that should be important to all Americans. He was asked first about the Iranian nuclear deal, to which he responded:
“This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians. By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven. This is the most idiotic thing, this Iran deal. It should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people. I read the whole deal. We gave away the whole store. It’s got to be stopped.”
Next, he spoke about what American values should be:
“We are a nation of law—not emotions, not men, not money, not power—but a nation of law….Our worth and our value comes from a higher source, God. Not the government, but from God.”
In following through on discussion of values, the topic of Planned Parenthood came up. (If you have not heard the news of Planned Parenthood’s atrocities, watch this video of a Planned Parenthood official discussing the sell of fetal body parts.) Huckabee’s response:
“The fact that they are getting between $500-540 million of taxpayer money is really a disgrace. It is disgusting to fund an organization like Planned Parenthood that chops up babies and sells the parts like parts to a Buick. [America needs to] come to grips with a 42-year nightmare of taking babies from their mother’s womb. This needs to come to an end,”
Finally, regarding illegal immigration, Huckabee is in favor of sealing the border, and described his position this way:
“When water is everywhere, the first thing you have to do is stop the leak…Big Business makes sure that nothing ever gets done. They don’t report their income and the employer’s are not paying the employer tax. If you take away this financial advantage, you are going to see Americans going back to work.”
It is a long road before elections, but now is the time to begin evaluating candidates. While I don’t believe Washington can fix the problems of our nation, those we elect can certainly make matters worse. Every American is responsible to be informed and to “vote your values” when we elect local, state, and national officials. Please be an informed voter by being certain of your values, evaluating candidates according to those values, and voting. As believers, our values should reflect those of our Creator and Sustainer of Life. Who better to know how governments should work than the one who instituted government!
Be praying for the candidates. I desire that we have good, solid choices as we go to the poles in 2016. Pray that those with strong moral values step up, remain strong in their beliefs, and that God honors them with victory.
