What’s at Stake with ISIS?

A year ago, households were hearing of a “new and improved” al-Qaeda terrorist group called ISIS, and they were beginning their assault on Syria and Iraq.  President Obama dismissed the al-Qaeda offshoot as a “JV team,” presenting little threat to the US.  However, less than a month later, al-Qaeda severed ties with ISIS, calling them “too extreme.”  Today, Israel is mourning the deaths of Jews in Paris, France is trying to figure out why the terrorist attack was carried out by radical Muslims pledging allegiance to ISIS when France has put out the welcome mat to Muslims, and most world leaders are doing very little to address the threat of ISIS and al-Qaeda.

National Review Online author Quin Hillyer hit the nail on the head with her article Wake Up: It’s War!  I recommend it, where you will find several intriguing quotes, including this one by Britain’s Director General of MI5 (British Intelligence Agency):

“My sharpest concern as Director General of MI5 is the growing gap between the increasingly challenging threat and the decreasing availability of capabilities to address it.”

To be sure, when it comes to terror, ISIS is no JV team (and neither is al-Qaeda), and if the world lacks capability and will to address it, expect to see terrorism exported worldwide.  As the Great Satan (according to radical Islam), the US will soon be in the crosshairs of militant jihadists, like ISIS and al-Qaeda, who wish to establish a worldwide caliphate.
