Syrian media has reported that Israeli jets carried out airstrikes on targets near Damascus on Sunday. Though Israeli authorities have not confirmed the operation, it is believed that Israeli fighter planes may have targeted Russian-made S-300 missile launchers warehoused near Damascus, potentially headed to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Syrian officials called it “an aggression against Syria” in support of terrorists, namely the Nursa Front which has opposed the Syrian Assad regime.
With civil war taking place in Syria and Shi’ite-controlled Hezbollah a willing recipient of missiles and other ammunition with which to target the Jewish state, Israel’s northern borders continue to hold the attention of military officials. According to Bible prophecy, we should not expect anything different! There will certainly be activity to Israel’s north in the last days. Isaiah 17 confirms that Damascus will ultimately be destroyed, and Ezekiel 38-39 tells us that an invasion from the north will undoubtedly push through that region as well.
We are living in the last days. As we see and hear the news in the Middle East, we are wise to view it through the lens of Scripture. As we do, we see pieces of Bible prophecy fall right into place. Yes, these things signal perilous times ahead. But, as Christians, these things signal the imminent return of our Lord Jesus, as the Bible teaches us that God will spare us from the wrath that is to come (the tribulation)! (1 Thessalonians 1:10)
So, be encouraged, Christian friends! Our Lord is coming soon!
