Is America beyond the point of no return?  Are world events uncontrollable?  Are we now at the whim and command of radical Islam?

These are questions I have seen and heard being raised in the media and in conversations with people.  Many Christians and non-Christians alike are sensing a dramatic change in our nation and in our world, and are seeing a need to do something about it.  Most simply don’t know what to do, or are unwilling to take a stand.

Friends, we are going to take a stand next week!  During the “Shake it Up” Prayer Event, we’re going to boldly petition the Almighty God of the Universe to move in ways that only He can move!  Our nation and our world are in dire need of a Great Awakening, and I strongly believe that God is plenty capable, and even desirous, of fulfilling that need.  However, no Great Awakening has ever occurred without “on your face before a holy God”-type repentance.  As believers, we must lead that charge!  A nation is not changed by its politicians, but by believers committed to humbling themselves, praying, seeking God’s face, and turning from wicked ways individually and nationally (2 Chronicles 7:14).

I have to admit, the idea of praying for a Great Awakening did not originate with me!  Christian leaders have been calling us to do so for years.  I’m simply a convicted believer determined to take God at His Word and put action to the exhortation!  Just a few minutes ago God confirmed that calling when I read an article by Christian leaders regarding the direction of our country that said:

There is no question that America is in a state of decline. But the situation is actually more serious than that. The United States faces outright collapse if we do not soon make fundamental and serious changes at home and abroad.

Above all, America needs the help of Divine Providence. We have faced enormously difficult times in the past. Yet, by the grace of Almighty God, we have also seen Great Awakenings in American history. The first game-changing series of spiritual revivals occurred in the U.S. in the 1700s. Another took place in the 1800s. During these eras, Americans who had been drifting from spiritual matters and thus seeing increases in alcoholism, crime, and other social troubles, suddenly turned back to a deep faith in Jesus Christ and returned to church in massive numbers. They once again became passionate about raising healthy families, educating their children, caring for the needy and vulnerable among them, and building strong, vibrant, healthy communities without an over-dependence on government. They realized afresh that a self-governing society needs to be made up of self-governing individuals and families. And in the wake of these Great Awakenings came the greatest era of business entrepreneurship, technological innovation, economic growth, social reform, military might, and religious devotion the world has ever seen.

Today, we need a new Great Awakening. To truly get America back on the right course, we urgently need to humble ourselves and pray — faithfully and consistently — for God to give our country a series of spiritual, social and sweeping national revivals that will truly transform individuals, families and our culture. The challenges we face as a nation are simply too great to be solved by our own efforts. We need God’s help.  (2016 ‘Evangelical Primary’ is Already in Motion)

It is clear that America is off course, and only divine intervention will right the ship.  I don’t believe America is beyond the point of no return, but we can’t return without the help of Almighty God.  I don’t believe that world events are uncontrollable, but only a Sovereign God truly has control.  I don’t believe that we are at the whim and command of radical Islam, but we will be if we fail to call on the power of the One True God.
