Hi friends! At this point, few need to be convinced that we live in a violently chaotic world. Wars continue in various places, Islamists have taken over Europe, antisemitism is rampant, vitriolic speech is “normal,” people are murdered simply because they don’t look like, think like or act like others, and of course, Israel remains under siege militarily, diplomatically, and in the media.
Some may view the chaotic events mentioned above as separate issues, yet I believe they all have the same root. The God of the Bible has largely been set aside and man does what is right in his own eyes, just as they did in Israel’s history (Judges 17:6, Judges 21:25), despite Proverbs 14:12 warning us that the “right way” in man’s eyes will end in death. After all, if there is no solid standard (God’s Word), who decides whether something is good or evil?
God’s Word is universal and His principles apply to us all. It is life’s instruction book, clearly defining good and evil. But consider this: God’s Word centers around Israel. It was written primarily by descendants of Abraham and was directed first and foremost to the Jews. It lays out Israel’s history and projects her future. It speaks of no other nations, except in their dealings and relationship to Israel. Jesus was born in Israel, lived in Israel, ministered in Israel, was crucified, buried and resurrected in Israel, and will one day return to Israel!
It’s not that other nations have no part in the timeline of history. Most assuredly they do. Yet, the purpose of every nation flows into God’s plan for Israel, and the core of God’s plan for Israel is centered squarely on the God of Israel! Consider the list above:
- All war mongers will ultimately stand before the God of Israel.
- All Islamists will ultimately stand before the God of Israel.
- All antisemites will ultimately stand before the God of Israel.
- All who spew vitriol will ultimately stand before the God of Israel.
- All murderers will ultimately stand before the God of Israel.
- All besieging Israel will ultimately stand before the God of Israel.
Whether we like it or not, Israel matters.
Tonight, we will start a 6-week study entitled, Why Israel Matters. We will dig deeply into God’s Word to discover why He uniquely called a particular man (Abraham) and a particular people group (the Jews) to carry out a particular mission (be the vehicle of world redemption). The puzzle pieces will fit together as we examine the man, the people and the mission through the lens of Scripture.
If you are in the Phoenix area, please join us for our first lesson tonight!
