Is Labor Day Biblical?

Is Labor Day biblical? I think we can agree it is a day to pause and thank God for the blessed privilege to live in a prosperous nation with plenty of opportunity to work and provide for our families. God created the world and everything in it in 6 days, then rested on the 7th. Perhaps we could learn from God’s example.

Work is to be celebrated, not worshipped. God Himself rested on the 7th day and it serves as a reminder that our work has purpose, but our rest is to be sacred. In God’s plan of things, there is to be a Sabbath rest. Practically speaking, it is a day of rest following an honest week’s work. Yet, our Sabbath rest is much more than an occasional day off!

Indeed, work is biblical and so is rest! America’s Labor Day was instituted to celebrate our ability to work hard and rest well! We are to work with all our might as unto the Lord, and we are to take a Sabbath rest. But, did you know Jesus is our Sabbath rest? Find out more about that here:

Our Labor Day celebration should point straight to Jesus Christ, our Sabbath rest! I’m praying that you find true rest today as you yield your life and everything in it to Him. May the blessings of Jesus our Messiah be poured out upon you today as you rest from your labor!
