For over 45 years, the Iranian regime has seldom missed an opportunity to threaten Israel’s existence. Prior to 1979, Iran was a moderate Muslim country at peace with Israel and the US, but the overthrow of the Shah of Iran changed all that. The Ayatollahs and succeeding presidents of Iran continually led chants of “Death to Israel, death to America!” Along the way, they tagged Israel as the “Little Satan” and America as the “Great Satan.”
Their strict interpretation of Shi’ite Islam dictates that their god, Allah, specifically called them to destroy the infidels (anyone who disagrees with their theology, including Christians, Jews and even Sunni Muslims). Too coward to fight a conventional war, Iran chose to spread evil throughout the Middle East via terror proxies such as Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, the Houthis and many other radical groups to accomplish their mission. At the command of demonic Iranian dictators, those groups have killed hundreds of Americans (such as the Beirut barracks bombing, attacks on American bases, etc) and have made innumerable terrorist attacks on Israel, including the October 7 massacre.
Along the way, Iran built an extensive network of uranium enrichment and ballistic missile facilities. For years Israel warned the world of Iran’s intent to develop nuclear weapons and often covertly thwarted their progress. (Example: the Stuxnet virus that destroyed approximately 1000 centrifuges at the Natanz facility in 2010.) But with a stable of nuclear experts (likely trained in Russia and/or North Korea), Iran continued pressing forward to develop what would surely be the weapon to fulfill Allah’s mandate to Iranian Shi’ite clerics to destroy the Jewish and American infidels. Until Israel’s attack on Iran and America’s devastating blows to Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, Iran was assuredly on their way to achieving nuclear capability.
Then came Trump’s announcement: both Israel and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire. As I write this, though, rockets continue to fly as the effective time of the ceasefire just passed. Though very encouraged by Trump’s announcement, pardon me for being skeptical that it will hold!
What can we expect if the ceasefire holds and the war ends? Does God’s Word speak to this?
The Bible does not speak directly to this particular ceasefire, but I do think there are possible clues to what we can expect if the war ends. Those clues are found in Ezekiel 38.
I encourage you to read the entire chapter to put events in proper context. The chapter details an invasion from Israel’s north, led by Russia (Rosh, Meshech, Tubal), but joined by the likes of Iran (Persia), Turkey (Togarmah and Gomer) and others. If you haven’t noticed, Russia, Iran and Turkey are already in lockstep when it comes to Israel’s demise, so Iran is definitely not done trying to wipe Israel off the earth!
However, look very carefully at verses 8 and 11. What do you discover there? That attack will take place when Israel is dwelling safety. That has never been the case since Israel’s rebirth as a nation!
Assuming this ceasefire does the trick, and President Trump accomplishes long-awaited peace in the Middle East, Israel could see a season of peace and safe dwelling. I long for that season and pray many of you will join me on tours of Israel during that window of safety! There is no way of knowing how long that window will remain, but once it closes, according to what we read in Ezekiel 38, it will be no time to visit Israel!
Friends, we are living in amazingly historic times, as well as Biblically prophetic times. Now is the time to know your Bible and trust in the God of the Bible! It is also time to watch God do amazing things in places we never thought possible. (Check back tomorrow for an interesting Biblical lesson.)
PS: As I finish up this post, news has broken of additional Iranian rockets headed toward Israel. Iranians always want the last word. Let’s pray this is their “last word,” and that peace will ensue. May God grant President Trump his desire for world peace…if only for a season of time!
