From the beginning, God uniquely called the Jewish people to follow Him. His Word tells us that salvation is of the Jews, and was for them first (John 4:22, Romans 1:16). Scripture is one large volume of evidence that God loves His chosen ones and will pursue them incessantly.
One must wonder if the Jewish people can ever escape the constant, persistent drawing of Yeshua, the Messiah, on their heart. But once a Jewish heart is surrendered to Yeshua, can they ever stray away?
Yes. Just like other Christians, Jewish believers can be drawn away into worldly lusts, desires and sin. But there is always a way back to the Father!
Just like the prodigal in Luke 15:11-32, Elisha left his father’s home to go do his own thing. After figuratively wallowing with the pigs, he discovered that home is where he needed to be. Just like the prodigal, he turned and headed a different direction…and his father (literally and figuratively) welcomed him home.
Perhaps you were a prodigal at one time and can relate. Or perhaps you are still a prodigal, wondering whether the Father will welcome you home. Either way, be encouraged by Elisha’s testimony, and remember that God’s faithfulness to His uniquely-called ones is our guarantee that He will always be faithful to us!
