Make America Godly Again

Hi friends! We cannot avoid the fact that we are in another hot election cycle here in America. What happens between now and November 5, 2024 could well determine the trajectory of our nation for decades to come, and what YOU and I and every single follower of Christ decide to do will play a significant role.

Wait…stop…! Before you click the “close” button and move on to something else, please hear me out!

Some will say, “I thought this site was about Israel. What do American elections have to do with Israel?” Everything! Whether everyone agrees with it or not, the cold hard fact is that America was founded on Biblical principles. In fact, the pilgrims fled religious tyranny to come to this land and establish religious freedom. That was the purpose of America’s founding! And guess what? Israel is at the very center and heartbeat of the Bible and its principles. Israel is where Christianity was born, and Israel is where Christianity as we know it will culminate in the end.

Furthermore, God called two witnesses to testify of Him: Israel and the church. We just highlighted that in Judeo-Christian Values and Our Moral Foundation. Israel has a unique calling, as do Christians. Though America has certainly sacrificed its Christian heritage over the years, God has not absolved America of its responsibility as a Christian nation. That means if America’s ship is to be righted, Christians must take up the mantle and fight for the same Biblical values upon which our nation was built. That includes standing unashamedly with Israel.

Still others will say, “The church must stick to preaching the gospel, rather than get entangled in politics.” That is partially true on one hand and totally misses the mark on the other. While I agree that the #1 mission of a believer is to share the gospel and draw as many as possible to saving faith in Jesus Christ, it does not eliminate the Biblical requirement to live out our faith in EVERY area of life…including civic engagement. The two are not mutually exclusive! We have responsibilities in each!

First, let’s eliminate the manmade term “politics.” By design it has the connotation of leaving God out. Instead, let’s use the more accurate term “government” (or “civic engagement”). Then, let’s not forget that government is one of three sacred institutions of authority God Himself ordained. (Family and church are the other two.) It could be a lengthy study on its own, but in general, family authority is outlined in Genesis 2 and Ephesians 5-6 (among others), church authority is detailed in Ephesians 4, Hebrews 13, 1 Peter 5 and elsewhere, and government authority is described in 1 Peter 2, Romans 13 and other passages. (Not to mention Moses, the 10 Commandments, and the laws of Deuteronomy!)

Finally, how can one say that such things as abortion, child mutilation, uncontrolled borders, and unaccountable leadership are “political” when God’s Word speaks to such things? Why isn’t every pastor in America speaking out against the killing of babies and other anti-Biblical dysfunction? Those are not political issues. They are spiritual, and spiritual leaders (by their calling) must shepherd their flock by speaking truth into those issues!

So, this election season, let’s drop “politics” and re-engage in a different way. Let’s consider God’s calling upon us as Christians. In essence, elections are a referendum on us as followers of Jesus Christ. Will we take a stand despite what others think? Will we speak the truth even if it is unpopular? Will we speak up for what is Biblical and right regardless of who is offended? Will we do our civic duty and VOTE?

In 2020, only half of registered Christians voted. Imagine if every Christian in America actually fulfilled their civic duty and voted their values. Assuming Biblical values are their guide, the election would not even be close and America would be in a far different place.

As one of two witnesses (Israel and the church) God called to testify of Him, let’s do our part in this election. Get in the game, urge your family and friends to get in the game, and exhort those in your congregation to get in the game. It is our Biblical responsibility.
