Hello friends! We just celebrated Independency Day in our great nation. By God’s grace, America has been blessed and those of us who call this nation home should show gratitude to God every day.
Yesterday we discussed the importance of living in a constitutional republic. It is a bottom-up form of government in which we acknowledge God granted rights to we the people…not to the government itself. In turn, we elect representatives whose charge it is to represent the will of the people, and we hold elected officials accountable by voting them into or out of office.
Not only is it important to know our candidates well and vote based on our values, but it is Biblically mandated. We are to engage in civic affairs, just as David, Jeremiah, Esther, Daniel, Paul and many other faithful men and women mentioned in God’s Word.
Here in Arizona, early voting is underway in our primary election to determine who the Republican and Democrat nominees will be for local, state and federal offices. Arizona friends, PLEASE vote. If you are not registered, it is too late for the primary, but not too late for the upcoming general election in November. If Godly values are to return to our society, we need YOU to do your part. (If you are not registered to vote, please do so here.)
As Christians, did you know there are very simple ways (beyond voting) that you can make a significant difference? Here are two easy, but very effective, means of involvement:
- Become a panelist to evaluate candidates in your state. iVoterGuide is a conservative organization doing incredible work with volunteers just like you and me who volunteer about 10-12 hours over a 2-week span to evaluate candidates. The process is simple, they provide training, and evaluations are done based on standardized methods to rate candidates on a scale from “Verified Conservative” to “Verified Liberal.” Data is compiled and goes out to millions of Americans to help them make wise ballot choices. (Here is what the voter guide looks like for the primary. We need more help with candidates in the general election, so please sign up!)
- For those a bit more adventurous, download and use the TPAction app to identify registered conservatives in your neighborhood who are “low propensity” voters. (ie – they likely share your foundational values, but they haven’t voted in the past two elections.) Sadly, barely 50% of Christians who are registered to vote actually voted in the last election. We have got to do better than that, friends! Let’s join the effort to get people registered, then encourage them through personal connection, text, email or postcards to vote in the November election.
Those of us who love our country and who desire our return to Biblical values (including standing strong with Israel) MUST engage in the public arena. Christians have the ability to totally and completely impact our nation for good, but we must mobilize and live out our faith in every area of life…including civic engagement.
We celebrated our great land yesterday. Today, let’s go to work to save it from the tyranny that is sure to come if we continue to sit on our “blessed assurance!”
