Today, there is special insight to glean from what Mary didn’t know. Perhaps all she knew at the time was the hardship that came from being a virgin, but pregnant out of wedlock. It carried tremendous stigma in those days, yet she and Joseph had to go to Bethlehem for a census. Horrible circumstances, horrible timing, and perhaps unbearable ridicule and shame.
