Is AI All Bad?

AI (artificial intelligence) has made big headlines recently, as the evil use of such technology threatens our well-being and even our existence. Recently, we considered the rise of false religion via AI and man’s attempt to create his own god via AI.

So, is there anything positive about AI?

Like so many things in life, what begins as a good thing gets pushed beyond the boundaries of God’s will and/or design, then becomes a tool for evil. Nothing has illustrated that more clearly than the advancements in technology.

Artificial intelligence is capable of many noble uses. For example, an Israeli innovation developed to diagnose cardiac problems is AI-driven. Prof. Robert Klempfner and Sheba Medical Center teamed up to create a bedside ultrasound device that uses artificial intelligence to perform echocardiograms. It is intended to be a complementary tool, not a replacement for cardiac treatments. Prof Klempfner said:

“There are a lot of scenarios today where a non-cardiologist is managing a cardiac patient. It could be on the internal medicine floor, in the emergency department, in the intensive care unit or in an outpatient setting. …We’re not trying to replace the full echo study. That’s a 60-minute study done by an expert technician and interpreted by a cardiologist, but we did want to find a way to answer key clinical questions and provide the core information that’s needed in a five to 7-minute exam.

In this case, Israeli researchers and physicians are putting AI to work in a positive manner. Praise God for that!
