How do we know Jesus is coming soon? Signs are everywhere!
Haven’t we seen signs throughout the history of the church? Yes, but never converging so completely at one time.
Think of some of the most obvious and easily recognized signs the Bible talks about. Israel must be back in the land. Check! The rise of false teachers and prophets. Check! Rampant deception. We addressed that yesterday…check! Nations and kingdoms rising against one another. Check!
Another sign, mentioned by Jesus Himself in Matthew 24 and Luke 21, is pestilence, defined as a “contagious or infectious epidemic disease that is virulent and devastating.” Check!
But let’s consider a bit more about Covid, its impact and handling of the pandemic. Suddenly, with a much more virulent, yet less deadly strain (Omicron), panic seems to have risen to new heights in some places, including Israel, who continues to wobble between sanity and insanity. It seems one day the Israeli government issues harsh restrictions only to turn the opposite direction the next day. The Bennett government appears to “go with the flow,” following the whims of the “expert” medical community.
All this takes psychological and emotional toll on people and restrains economic recovery and growth. The Covid “pestilence” continues to provide covering of fear that allows those with a globalist agenda to operate.
Regarding pestilences, Matthew 24 identifies them as “the beginning of birth pains!” The beginning implies the earth will experience more frequent and more severe birth pains!
Does God have a purpose for the pandemic! Absolutely. We may not know its fully intended purpose yet, but we can rest assured there is one. Personally, I view the pandemic as a shaking…yet another attempt by our gracious God to get our attention. Just as 911 and other key events shook us out of slumber, it seems Covid is a worldwide wake up call as well. The alarms have been ringing for a couple years. Are we hearing it? Are we responding to it?
Biblically speaking, God says He will shake things up during the last days.
6 For this is what the Lord of armies says: ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land. 7 I will shake all the nations; and they will come with the wealth of all nations, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord of armies.
~Haggai 2:6-7
“For behold, I am commanding,
~Amos 9:9
And I will shake the house of Israel among all nations
As grain is shaken in a sieve,
But not a pebble will fall to the ground.
Do you feel the shaking? It is worldwide. Is there a purpose? Of course! He wants people everywhere to turn to Him for hope and salvation. He wants the church to turn to Him in full trust and faithfulness. Look in the mirror of the pandemic. Do you see fear or faith?
