It is July 10 in Vienna, and another self-imposed deadline by the P5+1 and Iran is about to come and go…still no deal, yet still no end to the charade. Both sides continue to “talk tough,” but one thing is certain: Iran holds the edge.
Despite “red lines” drawn by the US during the 2 years of negotiations, the US administration continues to entertain the whims of Iran rather than putting an end to a “deal” that Iran needs far more than the P5. The White House says that it is “unlikely the talks will drag on for many more weeks,” thus, leaving the door open for extended negotiations for an unspecified length of time. This, after multiple wishy-washy threats that the US will walk away from negotiations if an agreement can’t be reached. (Secretary of State John Kerry said this earlier today: “The United States is absolutely prepared to call an end to negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program if Tehran does not soon make a series of ‘tough’ political choices….but we should not get up just because the clock strikes midnight.”)
After two years, it is clear that Iran is not going to agree to a deal without bending and breaking US-drawn “red lines,” particularly regarding sanctions relief, continued enrichment, advancing plutonium facilities, and intercontinental ballistic missiles that will ultimately make the US a target.
We must be reminded that politics and foreign policy cannot fix spiritual problems! The “negotiation game” being played right now is nothing more than a tool of the enemy, used to advance the cause and lengthen the days of evil. The only defense against evil is described in Ephesians 6:10-23. Why not take time right now to read, pray, and meditate through that passage.
As believers, we’re aboard a battleship, not a cruise ship. Let’s be faithful prayer warriors…put on the armor and take up the sword of the Spirit!
Pray on…!
