The day is finally here. It is Election Day in America. We’re worn down by political ads, dishonest candidates, pollsters who don’t have any better idea of election results than we do, and media that would rather spin a web of deceit than simply give us the news.
We’re weary, but we must press through. Here are 3 very important things to do today:
- Pray. America sits on the brink of spiritual and moral collapse. We didn’t get here over night, but like a frog in a pot of boiling water, we have allowed our enemy, the devil, to turn up the heat and get a foothold. Over time, what appeared to be only minor offenses to our conscience, have ramped up to total affronts to our Biblical values. This election has no perfect candidate, yet the tenets of righteousness are far more prevalent in one party’s platform than the other. Pray for eyes to be open and wisdom to prevail in the hearts and minds of Americans as we vote today. Pray for Christians to vote according to Godly values, and for the mercy of God to bring about victory for candidates who stand closest to His sovereign will and for propositions that bring Him glory.
- Vote. Christian friends, it is our God-ordained duty to participate in electing our leaders. In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells a parable in which a rich man gave his servants a number of talents, expecting them to do something with them. Some invested what was given to them, but one just buried his portion. When the rich man returned, those who had invested were praised as faithful servants and were given greater responsibility. But the one who did not invest was pronounced wicked and lazy and his talent was given to the one who reaped the greatest return on investment. In our world today, God has given us certain gifts, such as living in a country in which we have freedom and the ability to vote. We are to invest that gift wisely. Those who fail to do so risk God’s discipline. Collectively, Christians must steward what God has given us…a country founded upon Biblical principles. Together, let’s invest by voting our values!
- Stand. Regardless of how the elections come out, we still live in the most blessed country in the world. Not because we are so great…but because HE is so great. By His divine providence, America was founded as a result of brave men and women fleeing religious tyranny to go to a place where they could live out their faith as they felt called. They invested their talents, resulting in a land whose foundation is God’s Word! Yes, it is crumbling, and our glorious nation will take another significant blow should evil be allowed once again into the White House and the halls of Congress. But as believers, there is no doubt God has given us grace that will sustain us through whatever comes our way until He takes us to our eternal home.
So today, my friends, let’s be faithful to pray, vote, and stand.
