What is the Cost of Freedom? Can You Afford It?

Hi friends! We’re a week past Memorial Day in America when we stopped to count the cost of America’s freedom. The price is high and we are reminded that freedom is not free. But let’s tilt the perspective today. What is the true cost for you and me? Can we afford what freedom costs?

Social media posts, flying our flag, and honoring our fallen heroes are all wonderful ways to pay tribute to those who paid the price of serving (and in some cases, dying for) our country. And we SHOULD do those things. But it is all for naught if each of us do not pay the price to keep America free.

Today, our borders are overrun with terrorists, extreme perversion is normalized, Israel is demonized, and our judicial system is weaponized for political gain. It takes more than our military and first responders to fight for our country. It takes you and me.

There are dozens of tangible things we can do, but we’ll focus on two that everyone can do: pray and vote! As Bible-believing Christians, prayer is our means of communication with the almighty, supreme Creator and Sustainer of the world. Jesus is King and He is sovereign. If you believe that, then you know and understand the power of prayer. Engage it as the powerful weapon it is!

Prayer is crucial, but God’s Word teaches us to be “doers” of the Word, not just hearers or even “pray-ers.” Our faith must have ACTION or it isn’t real. That’s were voting comes in.

2020 saw the highest voter turnout in American history, yet only 67% of Americans voted. Shockingly, only 55-60% of self-professed Christians cast a ballot in what was considered the most important election in American history.

Christian friends, we have a Biblical obligation to live out our faith in every area of life, including civic engagement! Government is God’s idea and, though humans have made a mess of it, His mandate has not changed! Voting is the most fundamental of all civic duties.

Thus, here are two critical questions:

  • If you are legally qualified, are you registered to vote?
  • Did you vote in 2020?

Grace abounds here, so if your answer to either or both of those questions is “no,” you are forgiven and there is no shame. But what you choose going forward determines whether you continue in disobedience or yield to God’s command to live out your faith…even at the ballot box. Get registered and vote!

Each state has registration deadlines, so don’t delay getting registered!

The cost of freedom is the time and effort to vote. We can all afford that, and it is the best way to pay honor and respect to those who gave their service and their lives for our privilege to vote. Don’t know the candidates? No worries. iVoterGuide will soon publish voter guides that provide information helpful in determining what candidates align with your values.

Finally, be a “vote getter!” Don’t assume your like-minded family and friends are registered and will vote. Share this information with them and encourage them to get in the game! If every faith-filled believer is successful in encouraging even one more person to vote Biblical values, it would be a conservative landslide.

I’m committed to do my part. How about you?

PS: Some will ask: “What does this have to do with Israel?” Answer: EVERYTHING! A liberal America is turning its back on Israel. God will judge nations for how they treat His chosen people (Joel 3:2), and America is currently on the wrong track.
