Hey American friends! It is no secret that elections are around the corner and political hype is on the rise. Like many of you, I hate what fallible humankind has done to what God has ordained. Did you know government is God’s idea and He intends for use to be part of the process? Jeremiah 29:7 confirms that our personal welfare is tied to that of our cities. Likewise, though ekklesia in Greek is most often interpreted “church” in our English-language Bibles, it is actually a broader term meaning an assembly or a gathering (of which a church is only one example). God’s desire was for us to assemble together to promote the good of our society as well as the good of the church. Of course, the Bible is filled with characters highly involved in civic activity (King David, Daniel, Joseph, Esther, Nehemiah and many others).
Civic engagement is indeed an area in which our Christian influence must be shared. Otherwise, we have cities, states and nations run by pagans. We don’t have to look far to see evidence of that.
So, how do you get involved? There are dozens of ways, but I want to highlight some very practical ways. The most basic way to get involved is to vote! Did you know that 40-50% of professing Christians did not cast ballots in 2022? Imagine the difference if every Bible-believing Christian and morally upright person voted and did so according to Biblical principles! If you are not registered to vote, PLEASE do so. Registration is different in each state, so here is an easy guide. Then, please vote your values!
How do I find out what candidates align with my values? Awww….THAT is a great question!
iVoterGuide, a division of the very conservative American Family Association, thoroughly vets every single candidate for federal and high-level state offices. In states where there is enough help, they are now drilling down into “down ballot” races such as school boards and city councils as well. The vetting process is very thorough, so you can be sure that a ranking of liberal or conservative will be accurate. Here is some info:

Personally, I volunteer some time with iVoterGuide, evaluating candidates. It is a very tangible way to get deeply involved and they provide all training and materials. It takes only a few hours a week for only 4-6 weeks, and you work from home. Do you want a voice in determining just how liberal or conservative candidates are in your state? Millions of people look to iVoterGuide as a key source of information to determine for whom they will vote. You can have a part in helping them make informed decisions about candidates.
If you are interested in being part of a panel to evaluate candidates, please engage immediately, as training is happening right now in most states.
You can also get involved by talking to your neighbors, friends and those in your circles of influence. Perhaps your church will even allow you to set up a table in the lobby to hand out flyers. You don’t have to be “political” or try to “convince” anyone of anything…you simply encourage like-minded people to vote. If you haven’t noticed, those who win elections don’t necessarily have the best policies. They simply know how to get ballots into a ballot box. As conservatives, we must do the same! Here are some resources:
There you have it, friends! Following God’s command to live out our lives in EVERY area, including civic engagement, is not only doable, but is easy! Only Christians and morally upstanding citizens of strong character can change our country. If not us, then who?
Finally, a reminder: a strong America is the greatest way our nation can bless Israel. Let’s lead the way!
