Hey friends, welcome to All Fool’s Day (or April Fool’s Day). Before we make it back to our focus on Israel in perspective, I’m reminded of how foolish we have become as a nation. However, as Christians, there is still plenty we can do in a world that is growing darker every day.
Election season is upon us, and I urge you to live out your Christian faith in EVERY area of life…including civic engagement. Perhaps you think it is best if Christians just stick to church and teaching the Gospel rather than involving yourself in politics.
Well, I’ve got news for you! The Bible is full of examples of those who got involved “politically” in their culture. David was king of Israel. Daniel and Joseph became servants of foreign kings, to Israel’s advantage! Esther petitioned the Persian king for relief from those who wished to kill Jews. Many righteous Bible characters played important roles civically. (One way to do that is detailed at the bottom of this post…check it out!)
BTW – forget the word “politics.” It is a modern word that has been twisted from the original intent of involvement in civic affairs. One well-respected Bible teacher jokingly said, “Politics come from the Greek prefix poli-, meaning many, and tics, meaning blood suckers!” Though kidding, I see some truth in that. How about you!?!
Rather than politics, the New Testament uses a word, ecclesia, which we often think of as church. The word actually means gathering, and often as not, referred to those “gathered” to do the city’s business.
Also, what about Jeremiah 29:7 that links our peace and prosperity to the welfare of the city (state, nation) in which we live? Who better to work toward the welfare of the city than believers who know and follow the ways of the Lord! Making America Godly again should be our ambition.
Friends, it is a Biblical mandate that we live out our faith in the public square, and it is foolish not to! It is our responsibility to be involved civically. At a minimum, that means voting Godly values, but I think it also means living large in our faith! Get involved! If our nation has any chance of recovery from the mess it is in, it is up to Christians…not politicians…to do it! Get in the game! Our nation needs you!
Here is a tangible way to do that: become a panelist to evaluate candidates! Most states have conservative voter guides and iVoterGuide (a division of American Family Association) now produces those guides in almost every state. Becoming a panelist is easy, they provide training, and you have a say in ranking candidates in your state! You will impact the way others in your state vote!
