God’s Word warns us that evil will grow abundantly in the last days. For example, 2 Thessalonians 2 confirms that the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, and 2 Timothy 3 provides a lengthy laundry list of evil that will ensue during the last days. Those passages seem to characterize our society more and more accurately with each passing day.
Yet, there are remnants of hope! There are pockets of Christ followers rising up to take a stand for righteousness and our God-given rights and freedoms, and we need more like them!
One example is Chino CA. Not to say that things are perfect there, or that every person lives out Christian values every moment of every day. However, there has been tremendous effort over decades by Godly people to influence their community for the better. Strong, morally sound people (mostly Christian, but not all) have run for public office and are serving their community well.
Just last week, the Chino Valley United School District considered whether or not to require schools to notify parents if their student asks to be identified as a gender other “than the student’s biological sex or gender listed on their birth certificate.” Lengthy and lively public debate was held and two key things occurred.
First, California State Superintendent of Schools, Tony Thurmond, who made the trek from Sacramento to personally attend the school board meeting, was given first opportunity to speak. After his allotted time, board president Sonja Shaw firmly addressed the State Superintendent, making it clear that liberal left policies that he espouses have resulted in perversion. Watch what happened following their exchange:
Praise God that Sonja Shaw took a stand for righteousness and had the wherewithal to realize elected officials work for the citizens, not the other way around!
Following all other public comments (which were overwhelmingly in support of the proposed requirement that parents be notified), the school board voted 4-1 to approve it! (Watch the celebration here.)
Evil and perversion abound, so Biblically speaking, how should we live in these last days? Luke 19:11-27 is a parable Jesus told about the coming Kingdom of God. Even people in Jesus’ day knew there was more to life than what we experience on this earth. The key take away of this parable spoken by Jesus is found in verse 13: Do business till I come.
As it pertains to fighting against evil and perversion, what “business” is Jesus talking about if not these things:
- Do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. (Micah 6:8)
- Open your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. (Proverbs 31:8-9)
- Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. (Isaiah 1:17)
- So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. (James 1:21)
- This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Turn from your evil ways, and stop all your evil practices. (Zechariah 1:4)
Scripture is filled with admonitions to avoid evil and perversion in settings of all kinds. It is not always school board meetings or civic engagement, but that’s a good place to start!
