It is difficult for me to think about Israel without thinking about God’s plan to always protect and uphold the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  Thus, I get very intrigued when news of the day seems to point to possible fulfillment of end times prophecy.  Ezekiel 38-39 describes an invasion of Israel from the north, and Russia and Iran are named among primary aggressors.

 

Today, Ukraine is the latest nation to enter civil strife.  What’s behind it, and does it really matter?  Well, Ukraine was once a Soviet state, but became independent in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed.  Situated in far west Asia, Ukraine took on many western values, including the ideas of independence and democracy.  While the people of Ukraine seem to desire independence, Ukraine’s president, Viktor Yanukovych, seems to pursue closer ties with Russia.  Russia, meanwhile, is offering Yanukovych incentives to strengthen ties…all while the people protest.  Violence has now broken out between the government supporters and rebel citizens.

 

Vladimir Putin (president of Russia) seems very Gog-like, and Ezekiel 38 tells us that Gog will lead the Russian-Iranian invasion from the north.  It’s too early to determine whether or not Putin is Gog, but someone of his character will be.  Getting his grip on Ukraine would certainly strengthen the northern alliance. Not only is Ukraine situated in the area Ezekiel 38 describes, but it is a large country with a very large coastline on the Black Sea…a strategic place in battle!  (Area map)

 

Interesting…and just another current event that seems to line up with Biblical prophecy!  End days are coming!
