Why Now….?

Welcome back friends!  I’m in the midst of answering the most-often asked questions regarding travel to Israel:

  1. Why Israel? (See yesterday’s post)
  2. Why now?
  3. Isn’t it dangerous over there?

Why now?  Now more than ever Israel is feeling alone.  If you’ve read the news, you know that Israel’s neighbor, Syria, is a mess (bloody civil war), and terrorist groups are taking advantage of the safe haven there.  Egypt was taken over by the Muslim Brotherhood (a known terrorist organization). Lebanon has become an Iranian-backed Hezbollah (a terrorist group) base of operations. Evacuation of American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan has created a terrorist vacuum in those countries.

Perhaps most disturbing is the fact that the American administration is cutting secret deals with Iran that will allow them to build and deliver nuclear weapons…aimed at Israel and, ultimately, the US; and are putting pressure on Israel and the Palestinians to agree to a framework for peace that is very detrimental to the well-being of Israel.  Unbelievably, America is said to be Israel’s closest ally.  (With friends like that, who needs enemies!)

So, it is understandable that Israel feels alone.  Whether or not our government officials stand with Israel, there is no better time for Christians to express support for Israel.  Going there and engaging the people is one way to express support.  However, going there is not the only way to stand with Israel!  Will you commit to pray for Israel?  Israeli leadership needs wisdom and boldness.  Your prayers are heard by a mighty God who loves to respond to the hearts of His children.  So, now is the time…whether you go to Israel or pray for them!
