Welcome back to our weekly prayer focus on our elections! This election is crucial, not only to America, but to Israel and the rest of the world as well. The US and Israel are united as never before, and prayer is critical as we face the battle for America’s soul and Israel’s salvation.
When the US stands strongly for Israel, our world is a better place.
We began our focus two weeks ago on Biblical principles that guide us as we vote. So far, we have discussed honoring God by:
- Registering to Vote
Today, we look at our third principle: honoring God by Being Informed!
Jesus said, “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Matthew 10:16) We live in a world of sheep in wolves clothing as political candidates seem to bear the image of a sheep while attacking principles like a wolf.
Are you shrewd in discerning truth from lies? When is the last time you asked God to grant you wisdom to see through the lies and cling to the truth?
To be wise in determining how to vote, prayer is the starting and ending point. In between, learn all you can about how candidates have voted on issues in the past, what their views are presently, and what they will likely support in the future. Reliable information is vital.
Here are some resources that may help you:
- Decision magazine’s Election Guide – Fantastic “at-a-glance” comparison of positions on important issues such as abortion, religious liberty, human rights, federal judges, national defense, Israel and more.
- Arizona Voters Guide – Arizona has an excellent voter guide, and your state may as well. Try googling “voter guide [your state]”. Be discerning, though, as some produce voter guides from a liberal perspective.
- Pray. Vote. Engage. – A resource provided by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Spend the time it takes to become informed. There is nothing more appropriate than thoroughly evaluating candidates and issues, then voting according to your Biblical values.
So, honor God by praying for wisdom as you prepare to vote, registering to vote and becoming informed. Then, we will see how our Lord moves in this election!
