Unfortunately, history is filled with Antisemitic words, actions and attitudes of Christians toward Jews. The Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust and other historical evils were committed, in large part, in the name of Christianity. Is it any wonder the relationship between Jews and Christians has been less than stellar.
As Christians, we owe a debt we cannot pay to our Jewish heritage. After all, Jesus was Jewish, yet He died for our sins and provided salvation, even to Gentiles. If not for Jews, there would have been no Jesus!
Fortunately, many Christians have come to realize the value of our Jewish heritage, and make efforts to build bridges of reconciliation. In return, many Jews welcome the support of Christians and their love of Israel.
However, segments of orthodox Jews resent Christians and their claim to the Messiah. In fact, they are, at times, antagonistic and disruptive of Christians and Messianic Jews. Such was the case recently in Jerusalem when a group of orthodox Jews assaulted Christians and Messianics as they enjoyed a Messianic Christian concert in Jerusalem. See the video and read the story here.
Let’s remember to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, as well as reconciliation between Jews and Christians around the world. May the love of Jesus the Messiah reach into the hearts of Jews and Gentiles alike!
